I am Naveed Qamar, a final-year Mechanical Engineering student at NEDUET. I come from Landhi, Karachi, where resources are scarce, and my father was the sole earner. Although my family always valued education, we could not even afford the admission fee; we took a loan and put our tawakkul in Allah and got admission, Alhamdulillah. From my second semester, the Orange Tree Foundation Scholarship relieved my financial burden and allowed me to focus fully on my studies. With OTF’s support, I was able to pursue extracurricular opportunities and practical experience: I competed at the national level and secured second place at the AKDC Nationals ’23 (IMechE Pakistan), completed several internships in the mechanical domain, and I am currently carrying out my final-year project at Lotte Chemicals’ plant, integrating AI to innovate plant maintenance, preparing for the future. As graduation approaches, I am determined to give back to my community first by supporting OTF’s mission and, more broadly, by mentoring and creating opportunities for future students, Insha’Allah. Once again, I am deeply grateful to the Orange Tree Foundation for making this journey possible.

Hi everyone, my name is Arisha Ammer, and I’m an Abdullah Foundation scholar and a recent graduate from Habib University majoring in computer science, class of 2025. During my time at Habib, I was able to participate in undergraduate research and summer tech programs, and I also secured a place in the graduate school curation program. This gave me extensive exposure not only to subjects within my major but also to diverse topics from around the world, helping me double my skills in the liberal core and gain access to critical thinking. I also participated in various competitions at national and international levels. One program that truly transformed my journey was the graduate school curation program, which initially felt very different but provided tremendous support, including summer undergraduate research opportunities, multiple preparatory sessions for master’s programs, application assistance, preparation for academic aptitude tests, and research exploration guided by top faculty. I had the incredible experience of developing a competitive programming course with Dr. Macar Salem. In my first summer, I engaged in research, and during the second, I pursued independent research with the computer science program director. What truly sets Habib apart is how comprehensively it prepares students for the real world—not just within their specific fields but across many disciplines.

I am from Scheme 33, Karachi. After my father's death, it became difficult for me to focus on my studies, financial challenges often made it difficult to continue higher education smoothly. My family has always valued education, but managing expenses alongside daily needs was not easy. The Orange Tree Foundation Scholarship truly eased that burden and allowed me to focus fully on my studies in Mechanical Engineering at NED University. It gave me peace of mind and motivation to perform better without constantly worrying about finances. With this support, I’ve been able to stay consistent in my academics and grow my interest in the power sector. After graduation, I aspire to work in a power house and contribute toward improving energy efficiency in Pakistan. I also hope to help other students facing similar financial struggles by guiding and encouraging them, just as I was supported.

Adab, my name is Marya Khozema and I am a recent graduate of Habib University from the batch of 2025. I majored in communication and design with a minor in South Asian music. Habib University has shaped me holistically over these past four years, and I was honored to receive the Chancellor’s Yohsin Medal, the university’s highest distinction awarded to a student who embodies respect, beauty, service, passion, and excellence. Throughout my time here, I adapted these qualities through the people I met, the courses I took, and my involvement outside the classroom, including volunteering and various activities driven by my curiosity. My thesis focused on tabla making, reflecting my fascination with musical instruments, and one of my favorite courses was ‘Music and Math,’ which beautifully combined two distinct fields and expanded my openness to new ideas. In summer 2023, I was selected for the learn abroad program at UC Berkeley, where I took marketing courses and studied traditional theater, opportunities I might never have had otherwise. Thanks to Habib University’s support, I did not worry about financial burdens, which allowed me to fully immerse myself in academics and extracurriculars—an immense privilege that enriched my undergraduate journey.

I am from Karachi and my parents always prioritized and did their best to provide me with quality education, even when it meant making personal sacrifices. While I was fortunate to have their support, the cost of higher education still posed a significant challenge for us financially. The Orange Tree Foundation Scholarship played a crucial role in lightening that burden. It allowed me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies without the added stress of financial strain. This support made a real difference in my academic journey and encouraged me to aim higher in Software Engineering. Thanks to this opportunity, I was able to maintain strong academic performance. I’m truly thankful to the Orange Tree Foundation for being a part of my journey and investing in my potential.

The reason why I chose Habib University was because of the extensive range of minors they offer. Alongside my computer science major, I did a double minor in communication and design, which allowed me to never feel boxed in. While taking core computer science courses like AI systems, computer vision, and human-computer interaction, I also explored subjects like design for social change and storytelling, which helped me understand how to empathize with people and use technology to improve lives. Habib’s liberal arts model gave me the freedom to explore philosophy and art beyond computer science. Receiving the Abdullah Foundation scholarship motivated me to take extra courses every semester—sometimes beyond my minor—because I loved the subjects and wanted to push myself. The scholarship gave me the breathing room to do so. The classes at Habib, such as ethics of AI and queer futures, are unique and transformative, introducing new concepts in Pakistan and globally, and I truly appreciate Habib University’s initiative to bring these innovative ideas into education.

I come from a middle-class background in Pakistan, where my family has always valued education as the key to a better future. However, after the demise of my father, our financial circumstances changed. Alongside pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at NED University of Engineering and Technology, I began giving private tuitions to help manage household expenses. Despite my efforts, managing semester fees often became a serious challenge. There were times when my mother had to sell her jewellery just so I could continue my studies. The Orange Tree Foundation Scholarship came as a blessing during one of the most difficult phases of my academic journey. It lifted a significant financial burden off my family’s shoulders and gave me the stability to focus wholeheartedly on my studies and on skills. With the scholarship’s support, I was able to perform well academically, explore my passion for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and participate in several impactful learning opportunities. This support not only eased my financial stress but also restored a sense of hope and motivation in me to keep moving forward despite the hardships. Today, I am deeply grateful for the Orange Tree Foundation’s belief in my potential. I have been able to enhance my technical skills and work on projects. This scholarship was a turning point that allowed me to dream again, work harder, and stay focused on building a future filled with purpose and impact

My family was struggling financially, and continuing my education seemed very difficult. The support from OTF not only helped me overcome my financial challenges but also ended the depression and uncertainty I was facing at that time. I come from Yasin, Darkut, a remote village in Gilgit-Baltistan, where access to education and basic facilities was very limited. I was born there in 2005, at a time when the area was still barren and underdeveloped. To pursue education and a better future, my family and I moved to Karachi, where I began my academic journey. After completing my Intermediate, I applied to several top universities in Pakistan, including IBA and FAST. Although I faced some challenges that prevented me from continuing at IBA, I was fortunate to secure admission to FAST, where I began pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. However, the financial burden of university fees forced me to take loans and rely on part-time tutoring to cover my expenses. During this challenging time, I learned about the Orange Tree Foundation (OTF) through my cousin. When I received the acceptance email from OTF, it truly felt like a turning point in my life as if a heavy weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Since becoming an OTF Scholar, my experience has been nothing short of amazing. OTF has not only provided financial assistance but has also been a supportive, encouraging, and compassionate platform that cares deeply about students’ well-being and growth. Their support has allowed me to focus more on my studies and personal development without constant financial stress. I am deeply inspired by the mission of OTF and aspire to follow a similar path to help and empower the youth in underprivileged communities, especially those who lack access to basic educational opportunities. I am currently serving as a volunteer, working towards creating awareness and opportunities for others, just as OTF did for me.

My name is Fiza Farooq, and I am currently pursuing my degree in Computer Science from FAST National University, Karachi. Ever since I began my journey in this field, I’ve been passionate about exploring technology. However, continuing higher education has not been easy due to financial constraints. I come from a humble background. My father is the only earning member of our family and works in a government job. Despite his hard work and dedication, managing both household expenses and my university fees was a challenge. The Orange Tree Foundation Scholarship has been a tremendous support in this journey. It helped cover 50% of my university fee, easing a significant financial burden on my family. Because of this support, I’ve been able to focus fully on my studies without worrying about finances, and it has truly motivated me to keep striving for excellence. I aspire to build a successful career in the Computer Science industry and contribute meaningfully to the tech community. In the future, I also wish to support students who face similar challenges, just as the Orange Tree Foundation has supported me. I am sincerely grateful to the Foundation and the donors for believing in my potential and for making a real difference in the lives of students like me.

Assalam o Alaikum, My name is Muhammad Ashir. I live in Bufferzone, Karachi, Pakistan. My father passed away when I was 11 in 2015. We have been facing financial problems since then. My father always encouraged me to study, and wanted to see me as a well educated, qualified and successful person. When I was admitted to Fast University, Karachi – one of the leading IT Universities in Pakistan – I had no means to afford the tuition fee. Orange Tree Foundation then helped me financially. I am thankful to OTF for that. In the future, I aspire to become a skilled IT professional and contribute positively to society by helping students who face the same challenges I once did.

I belong to Lahore and completed my matriculation from a government school in 2020. When I was in tenth grade, I lost my father due to a heart attack. He was the sole earner of our family, and his passing deeply affected us both emotionally and financially. I have one elder sister and two younger brothers. My sister is currently studying at NUST, and managing the educational expenses of all siblings became a major challenge for my mother, who works as an online Quran tutor. When I got admission to FAST, I was worried that I might not be able to continue my studies because of financial constraints. I also started giving tuitions with my mother to support our household, but it became difficult to manage alongside my academics. The Orange Tree Foundation (OTF) scholarship eased a huge burden by covering my tuition fees, allowing me to focus on my education without financial stress. It also brought peace of mind to my mother, who no longer had to worry about my university expenses. Through this support, I’ve been able to grow both personally and academically. I’ve become more confident, started engaging with people, and learned a lot during my time at the university. I’m pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Computer Systems, and I aim to use my skills to contribute to Pakistan’s growing technology sector. In the future, I hope to mentor and support other students who face similar challenges, just as OTF supported me.
